We have a fairly basic social policy for our home.
1. Respect- Respect yourself, respect hostel guests, respect staff, respect the animals who are around.
2. Anti-Oppression- Be considerate of what circumstances and background
people have come from. Other people did not have the same experiences
as you growing up.
Women and men, Jews, Catholics, gay folks, children, elders, activists,
disabled folks, black folks, Asians, rich folks, poor folks, veterans,
incest survivors and geeks (for example) all have stigmas attached to
their identities that
have been produced and is constantly reproduced by society.
We affirm
our dedication to unlearning these hurtful ideas and ask for you to
contribute your willingness to examine the way society has framed
groups of people in your mind. If someone feels targeted by something
that you say or do, please listen to them.
3. Drug/Alcohol Policy-
We do not allow any alcohol storage or consumption in any public area of the hostel. We should never see illegal
drugs (including marijuana). If you have prescription medicine that is
a possible target for theft (ie oxycontin), let us know and we can come
up with a plan to keep it safe at the hostel.
4. Personal Safety- If you ever feel threatened or made
uncomfortable in any way during your stay here, let a staffperson know.
If it is at night, and we are asleep, you can wake up a staffperson (call a cell phone, or find us upstairs or in a trailer).
