Anna Livingston (August 2010 to December 2011) Anna Livingston is an ambassador of turtle island (aka Michigan, USA). Her parents gave her a revolutionary spirit presumably by taking her to Mexico for several months a year since she was age two until fourteen. It is believed that in Mexico she received an infectious bug that she has been unable to rid herself from- a travel bug. She has been unable to resist the adventures of travel; the joy of meeting new peoples, learning foreign languages and visiting spectacular places. Some of the countries she has visited and intends to re-visit are: Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, Guatemala, Spain, Mexico and Canada. She plans on visiting Peru for brief trip in the winter to educate herself about ecology and culture of the Amazon in South America. As a Buddhist she emphasizes altruism, as an artist she enjoys dance, music and photography, as a student she educates herself about organic farming, sustainable building and herbs. She welcomes you to Olympia, as you are. |

Aisling Badger From January to December 2009 Many years ago, in the middle of a sweltering august night, a hard rain came upon the beautiful state of New Hampshire. A man and a woman, drove along the winding back roads, in a small red Toyota pick up truck. Miss Aisling who was in quite a hurry to get to planet earth, was born, in the deepest part of the woods, in the front seat of the tiny truck. She was birthed to life, and with that kindled a fire. I have a passion for getting my hands in the earth, growing food , and making plant medicine. I enjoy good food, eaten with good people. and particularly enjoy the taste of curry. I like treats, and treats like me. I like to create. I like mad people,..people who are mad to live, and talk, and dance. I am learning to acquire few needs, and enjoy carrying my home on my back through the back woods, and mountain peaks of any place. Adventures and exploration through other cultures, and languages, inspire me to make positive change in my community and others. |

David Zenaty From June to November 2009 It's a well known fact that most beetles share the planet with other species that are not beetles and I am one of those non-beetle species. I'm of the ilk that invented institutions and robots; which is to say, I am human. I was born in Burlington, Vermont to a Jewish mother from Long Island and a Czech-heritage father from Upstate New York. I identify as a Jew coming out of assimilation into the long-projected promise land (perhaps the present moment), with my freshest human intelligence in-tact. I am a teacher by trade and am currently in the design-stages of building a Jewish intentional community on the west coast with my friend and fellow innkeeper Jacob Rosenblum. And so, the voices are clear. The beetles sing it most clearly. Look out! |

Jacob Aaron Rosenblum From Day 1 to Feb 2008, from June to Oct 2009. (a member of the Chez Cartel) Jacob Aaron Rosenblum is a co-founder of Chez Cascadia. He grew up in Portland, OR, and moved to Olympia in September of 2002. He is 25 years old, almost always wears a kipah, likes chess, is a technophile, and is super into being Jewish. He is a proud high school drop-out, attended Evergreen for about a year, and has spent several months in Israel/Palestine. He has been arrested only once, during a demonstration. He fairly regularly gets together with other people to cry and talk about his feelings. In January of 2005, he started Free Geek Olympia. His favorite colors are purple and green. The countries he has been to include: USA, Mexico, Canada, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Israel/Palestine, England, Jordan, Egypt, Uganda, Holland, Germany and Iran. Of all of the things that he likes, he likes people best. |

Stephanie Sfirah Keter Marcos Madrone July 2007-Nov 2008 (a member of the Chez Cartel) Stephanie is not afraid. Each intersection of time and space is pregnant with inspiration and possibility, and everyday she is less hesitant to repose this to whomever will listen. She has exeptional eyesight. She is your friend already. When Stephanie grows up, which may or may not be likely, she wants to be a dandelion that lives in a crack in the sidewalk. I dare you to tell her she can't. |

Ava Arsaga April 2008-Feb 2009 (a member of the Chez Cartel) Ava Arsaga is an Arkansas native. Consequently, she identifies strongly with the letter A, politeness in strangers, and opportunity. She doesn't have a particular affinity for talking in front of large groups of people, but is pretty attracted to one-on-one conversation. Her interests include beekeeping, growing food, sticking her nose in the sexual organs of plants, animal husbandry, making delicious food for people she finds delicious, laughter therapy, bicycle mechanics, preparing for the coming crash by not becoming dependent on facial moisturizers and astringents, picking berries in the summer time, falling in love with cartoon characters, hanging loose, building loving relationships, and looking deep, going far. She is also thoroughly schooled in general and organic chemistry, microbiology, and is licensed on the nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer at Evergreen but wouldn't consider those things interests as they haven't at all proven useful in conversing with the universe. Still, she is hopeful. |

Jonah Roehe Hankin-Rappaport Day 1 to Sept 2007 (a member of the Chez Cartel) On a crisp Mother's Day night, the pregnant moon high above the tree tops, a slimy and purple child was born. His parents, already with a girl child and living on a small Jewish hippie commune outside of Cottage Grove, Oregon, decided to name him Jonah Roehe Hankin-Rappaport. After a couple of years, the commune dissipated and the Hankin-Rappaports moved into Eugene, the local metropole. It was here that Jonah was raised, leading a happy childhood of school and sports, friends and family. In his junior year of high school, Jonah spent a semester in rural Chile living with a host family, attending the run-down public high school, improving his Spanish, and opening his eyes to the infinite possibilities of world travel and independence. After graduating in 2002, Jonah spent the year traveling across the U.S., going to Israel and Mexico, living and working for a period of time in the San Francisco Bay Area, and anxiously trying to figure out his life. The next fall he attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, finding inspiration in his art and gender studies classes. With mixed reviews, Jonah opted to complete the year but wasn't sure he would return--not quite sold on the whole college thing. After a summer of carpentry work in Portland, a last-minute decision was made to attend the wild and radical Evergreen State College here in Olympia. After two quarters, again with varying levels of satisfaction, Jonah decided not to enroll for the spring, instead, working as an actor in town. He then spent the summer in Eugene, working and hanging out and keeping in touch with his Olympia associate, Jacob Rosenblum. As the prospect of realizing their vision of an Olympia hostel came within reach, Jonah returned to Olympia to persue that dream. He has since been renovating and creating what is now the Chez Cascadia experience! Thus far, he has thoroughly enjoyed his time as an innkeeper, he cherishes his companionship with his dog, Kato, and he has taken it upon himself to indulge his true inner-self as an artist and craftsman. |

Emma Rose April-July 2008 Emma Rose and Lucy the dog moved to Chez Cascadia in the Spring of 2008 after a couple years of traveling and exploring. Emma mostly enjoys digging in the dirt and talking with plants, making and eating food, riding bicycles and fixing cars (or anything else she has learned to fix), dancing in the streets, laughing and being subversive. Lucy likes cuddles and chasing squirrels, eating meat, walking in the woods, and playing with her friends. They would like to welcome you to Olympia. |

Eden Vardy [Sept 25, 2006 to March '07, Feb. '07- Feb. '08] (a member of the Chez Cartel) Eden Vardy was born in the quaint town of Tel- Aviv, Israel on January 23, 1776. He spent the first two years of his life picking flowers and trying on women’s clothing. It was evident from day one that one day;;; Eden would have the opportunity to be the caretaker of a youth hostel. He dreamt about it constantly, yearned for the day when he would be old enough to move out and hostelize his life. On September 25, 2006, that dream came true!!! Eden now spends his days writing music about hostel life and is an active participant in deep forest drum circles. Eden enjoys yellow submarines, and sharing experiences about playing backgammon. You might expect to see Eden at Chez Cascadia where he will be happy to be your friend!‽! |
